Lukovic hails Serbian strength

Aleksandar Lukovic - boosted by qualifying run.

Defender Aleksandar Lukovic believes Serbia's qualifying record should give them plenty of confidence for the World Cup finals.

Radomir Antic's side topped a group including France to secure a spot in South Africa but their form in the build-up to the tournament has not been so impressive.

Defeat by New Zealand and a goalless draw with Poland were followed this weekend by a 4-3 win over Cameroon, but Lukovic remains confident of progress from a group including Germany, Ghana and Australia.

"The performances that we gave in qualifying gives us the right to think so," the 27-year-old said on www.glas-javnosti.rs.

"We have individuals who play at big European clubs but the results in qualifying we achieved as a group, which is more important than any individual, and that is our strength."

Serbia's solid defence was a major feature of their qualifying campaign and Lukovic insists they can tighten up after a shaky performance against Cameroon.

"We have made mistakes but I'm sure we can fix them," he added.
