The Repsol Honda man was the only rider to go under the 1’50” barrier as he warmed up quicker than Jorge Lorenzo and Casey Stoner in preparation for the Gran Premio d’Italia TIM.
Dani Pedrosa, who will start Sunday’s Gran Premio d’Italia TIM from pole position, was the fastest rider in the morning warm-up, setting a fastest lap of 1’49.750. That placed the Spaniard 0.306s ahead of rival and Championship leader Jorge Lorenzo, who was next on the timesheet in the 20-minute session.
Completing the top three, and mirroring the front row of the starting grid, Casey Stoner (Ducati Marlboro) was seven-hundredths behind Lorenzo, as the top three all geared themselves up for the race which is due to start at 2pm local time.
Andrea Dovizioso (Repsol Honda), Loris Capirossi (Rizla Suzuki) and Colin Edwards (Monster Yamaha Tech3) were the next three riders, all within a tenth of a second of one another, with Randy de Puniet (LCR Honda), Ben Spies (Monster Yamaha Tech3), Nicky Hayden (Ducati Marlboro) and Hiroshi Aoyama (Interwetten Honda MotoGP) completing the top ten.
